AREOLA MICROPIGMENTATION

Areola tattooing is a popular and transformative option for individuals who have undergone breast reconstruction and are left with missing, asymmetrical, or scarred areolas. This service is commonly sought by those who have had mastectomies or lumpectomies due to breast cancer, individuals undergoing gender confirmation surgery, gynecomastia surgery patients, those healing from complex implant explants, burn survivors, and anyone seeking aesthetic enhancement for personal or cosmetic reasons.

This form of micropigmentation creates the realistic illusion of a natural areola, typically completed in two sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart. In addition to restoring visual balance, these tattoos can also help minimize the appearance of scars, contributing to a greater sense of normalcy and confidence.

Areola tattooing can be performed over scars, skin grafts, and tissue that has undergone radiation. For unilateral procedures, the tattoo can be designed to closely match the existing areola. For bilateral tattoos, we can base the design on previous photographs or your personal aesthetic preferences.

INITAL TATTOO APPOINTMENT DATE MUST BE SCHEDULED AT LEAST 6 MONTHS AFTER YOUR FINAL RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY DATE

  • APPOINTMENT PREP

Please review the following guidelines to ensure the best possible outcome from your areola tattoo procedure:

    •    Timing: Your initial tattoo appointment must be scheduled at least 6 months after your final reconstructive surgery to allow the area adequate time to heal.

        •    Sun Exposure: Avoid sun tanning the area for at least one week prior to your appointment.

        •    Alcohol: Refrain from consuming alcohol for 24–48 hours before your session.

        •    Blood Thinners: Avoid taking Advil, Aspirin, or other blood-thinning medications for 24–48 hours beforehand, unless otherwise directed by your physician.

        •    Caffeine: Limit caffeine intake on the day of your appointment, as it may increase sensitivity.

        •    Eat Beforehand: Be sure to eat a meal before your appointment to help you feel comfortable and maintain stable blood sugar levels throughout the procedure.

  • AFTERCARE

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure the best possible healing and long-term results. Please follow these guidelines closely:

        •    Follow-Up Appointment: Book your perfecting session 6–8 weeks after your initial visit.

        •    Bandage: Leave the waterproof bandage on until it naturally begins to detach, typically within 3–7 days. Do not force it off.

    •    Sweating: Avoid heavy sweating for the first 48 hours.

        •    Ointment: Once the bandage is removed, apply a thin layer of the recommended healing ointment using a clean Q-tip, 3 times daily for one week. Less is more — apply just enough to keep the area hydrated and prevent scabbing.

        •    Product Use: Do not use cleansers, creams, makeup, or any other products on the treated area for 10 days, except for the provided healing ointment.

        •    Moisture & Heat: Avoid saunas, soaking in water, or long, steamy showers for 10 days after your appointment.

        •    Do Not Pick: Do not rub, scratch, or pick at the treated area. Allow any dry skin or scabbing to naturally exfoliate — picking can cause pigment loss or scarring.

        •    Sun Exposure: Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for 3–4 weeks following your procedure.

        •    Hair Removal Products: Refrain from waxing, bleaching, tinting, or using hair removal/growth products on or near the tattooed area for 4 weeks.

        •    Sleeping Position: Try to avoid sleeping on your stomach for the first 10 days to prevent unnecessary pressure or friction.

        •    Healing Products: Only use the healing ointment recommended at your appointment. Do not substitute with other products or alternative methods.

Keep in mind that everyone’s skin heals differently. Factors such as scarring, prior radiation, sun exposure, skincare routines, and aftercare compliance can all influence the final results and speed of healing.

Please note: there are no written or implied guarantees if aftercare is not followed properly. Additional sessions may be required and will incur an additional charge.
